Casting Director Workshops
I don’t like them. I know that there are many young actors that swear by them, even though they have yet to secure work from one. Once upon a time, many casting directors took pride in discovering new talent and would go out to see the actor applying their craft on stage. For many young actors there is a fast food mentality, and they feel they can skip a step, and then ready or not will get in front of that casting director that is going to see their greatness and give them a career. There are no shortcuts to good acting. I wish they would spend their resources on learning their craft. Falling in love with art of acting. I believe what a dear actor friend, Bruce Kirby, once said to me as he had heard Strasberg say, “Do the work and they’ll find you.” I believe this to be true. I believe that everyone gets their break if they stick with it. It may not be in the time you thought it would be, but that opportunity will come when it’s supposed to. There is only one thing I believe we have any control over and that is being the most prepared when that opportunity arrive. Study your craft.
